The Art of Overcoming Procrastination

Have you ever had a great idea, a big dream or goal you couldn’t wait to bring to life? Was it a new career or a business idea? Was it a book living inside of you, waiting to be put onto paper? Was is a trip you had always wanted to go on? 

You may have even gotten started moving in the direction to make it happen; then suddenly, a week has gone by … then a month… and before you know it a year or even a decade has passed and that great idea is still just that, a great idea living inside of you. 

Or do you put things off until the last minute, then go into panic mode to get it done? What is the physical reaction that happens in your body In these moments? Stress, anxiety, fear…. Just to name a few. 

Does this sound familiar to you at all? 

Welcome to the world of PROCRASTINATION! Let me share a little secret with you, WE ALL do it!!!  Its the tricky part of being human, we have great ideas that come in and we have the best of intentions to bring them to life and then life happens. Things pop up, we have responsibilities, we make up that there aren’t enough hours in the day or we just plain let fear control the outcomes of our deepest dreams and desires. 

Sorry to say, there will always be procrastination, just like there will always be fear. My invitation is to build a relationship with your procrastination and fear to where we control our destination, and not the other way around.  Sounds good right? 

I want you to take a moment and imagine what it would feel like to actually go for it and achieve that big dream, that goal thats been sitting idle inside of you. Imagine what it would be like to have your tasks handled before the 11th hour, getting them done with easy and time to breathe. Do you feel that? The weight being lifted, the enjoyment of basking in your accomplishments, really be with that experience and know that you can have it happen. 

Now, go ahead and write out where you have been procrastination. What barriers have you put in place to not move forward with this idea, dream or goal? What barriers do you put in place to keep you from handling your tasks before its time for survival mode?  Are you ready to break down these barriers? AWESOME! 

Go ahead, set the intention for when you will bring this idea, dream or goal to life, then I want to you notice each time the barriers start to pop up and identify them. Call out the fears and the barriers, then you have 5 seconds to decide if you will keep moving forward or let procrastination win.  As Mel Robbins says “If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea.” 

You are in the drivers seat, life is right now and its time to take action!
